Australia: Scott Driscoll, National President of the United Retail Federation, has applauded Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott’s pledge to reduce company tax to 28.5%, saying that many retailers and small businesses were on “Struggle Street” and the move would assist them greatly in getting back on track long term.
“Announcement by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will be welcomed by struggling retailers and small businesses that have felt neglected by the Labor government for the past two and a half years,” Mr Driscoll said.
“Retailers and small businesses have been on Struggle Street and forced to contend with an incompetent government’s policy failures and inflationary spending which has been producing heavy upward pressure on interest rates, so this measure will come as a relief.
“The challenge for Ms Gillard is to confirm if she is prepared to match this level of business taxation reform,” Mr Driscoll said.
