Australia: Scott Driscoll, National President of the United Retail Federation, has slammed the monumental wastage that Julia Gillard presided over in Government in response to recent inflation data and the Auditor- General’s report that government ‘stimulus’ had played no positive role in combating the Global Financial Crisis (GFC).
“The recent inflation data adds to the very clear proof that Julia Gillard’s monumental spending and borrowing spree has proven to be absolutely worthless and misdirected with its only outcome being more pressure and pain on working Australians and small business,” Mr Driscoll said.
“We’ve heard today from the Auditor-General that the unprecedented wastage of taxpayer money by Julia Gillard contributed absolutely nothing to Australia’s ability to weather the financial storm of 2008.
“It’s about time Ms Gillard apologised to every Australian retailer and working Australian for the unnecessary pain she has caused them as a result of her worthless spending spree which has produced inflationary pressure.
“Cost of living has been skyrocketing under policy decisions of the Rudd-Gillard government and it is becoming increasingly clear that responsibility lies squarely at the feet of Prime Minister Gillard.
“I also encourage Prime Minister Gillard to look more favourably on increasing aged pensions in the future, as small businesses and retailers rely heavily on older Australians to come back into the economy with confidence,” said Mr Driscoll.
